Museum School Highlight: Kelly Edwards

Kelly Edwards, Museum School ceramics instructor since 2001

You’re probably familiar with Kelly Edwards’ work even if you don’t realize it. Her art adorns several Arkansas galleries as well as one in Miami, Florida; she’s been a ceramics instructor at the Museum School for 15 years and you can view (and even purchase!) her work in the AAC Museum Shop. Basically, Kelly is an Arts Center all star.

Interested in art from a young age, Kelly creates three-dimensional wall hangings including clocks, crosses, masks, bowls and discs. She is a Raku specialist, a technique she says “requires more tenacity than luck.”

Some of Kelly’s works are available for purchase in the Museum Shop including her popular hearts

She attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in the 1980s where her love of sculpture and pottery began. In 1997, she took classes at the Arkansas Art Center Museum School, where she studied the Japanese ‘Raku’ technique. She then became an instructor in 2001.

You can find her work at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville; Red Door Gallery in North Little Rock; Blue Moon Gallery in Hot Springs; Sarah Howell Studio and Gallery in Jonesboro and at the Boswell Mourot Fine Art Galleries in Little Rock and Miami, Florida.
